Wordbuilder on a CD-ROM
The computer fully monitors and controls the child’s work. Viljenka Jalovec and MK now teach children to write with a CD-ROM. Thus, the pictures on the bookmaking cards, which we know as a didactic aid in the initial literacy, were replaced by the multimedia Wordbuilder, which with its varied pictorial content is based mainly on the visual performance.
It also enables the connection between the auditory and the visual. The child can independently, without the constant help of adults, acquire basic knowledge in initial literacy. The advantage of learning with the help of an electronic wordbuilder is that the computer checks all the answers itself, if the child chooses independently according to the content and order. Thus, in the first game called Wordbuilder, the child gets acquainted with the pictures that illustrate individual letters. In the second game, Voices-Letters the knowledge received from the first game is reinforced with thumbnails illustrating individual letters. In this game the auditory and visual perception and differentiation of initial letters and voices is consolidated, while in the third game, Connections, perceives and distinguishes final and initial sounds in words. In the fourth game Words, the child expands his vocabulary with the help of more than 200 new concepts and at the same time learns to write them correctly. The last game, Story, introduces the child to careful observation and helps him develop logical thinking. The electronic wordbuilder is intended for learning at home, in schools and also in kindergartens, and at the same time it helps teachers and parents with teaching initial literacy to children.
