LJUBLJANA – At yesterday’s press conference, Mladinska knjiga presented Wordbuilder on a CD-ROM by Viljenka Jalovec, which she also edited. Wordbuilder belongs to the Didactic Games collection and includes a CD-ROM and a Manual for the use and installation of a CD-ROM. It is the first multimedia tool in our country that has didactic value.
It is intended for initial literacy, i.e active learning of voices and letters, and can be used by children from the age of four to nine. For a CD-ROM, all answers are checked by a computer. The child is then warned of the mistakes he has made. What’s more, don’t let him do it. The correct solutions and incorrect attempts are automatically added together. The audio – visual technique enabled the didactic game to connect the auditory and visual decoding of symbols. Thus, the instructions are also presented in written and auditory form, which is a special value of the didactic game, as it enables independence without the constant help of adults.
The CD-ROM consists of five games. In the game Wordbuilder, the child gets acquainted with the pictures of the pictorial-letter wordbuilder, which illustrate individual letters. With the play Voices – Letters, children strengthen their auditory and visual perception and the distinction between initial sounds and letters. The purpose of the Connections game is to perceive and distinguish between final and initial voices in words. In the game Words, the child will learn more than 200 new concepts with the help of pictures and also learn to write them correctly. The game allows voice analysis of words and placement of letters in the correct sequence. The child can also choose the setting order in three ways. The last game Story, however, introduces the child to careful observation, develops logical thinking and begins to introduce him to reading with understanding.
